Spawn first seen

Look for frog mating activity in ponds, ditches or slow-moving streams.

Recording this event requires you to be looking fairly regularly during the late winter and recording the first clumps of frogspawn you see. Normally January to April but can be earlier in the South West of England. Spawn is laid in jelly-like clumps.

Available historic data: we have good data from 1923-1948 and 1975-1999
