Cuckoo

Cuculus canorus

Cuckoos have grey upper parts and chest with dark barring below which extends along the tail. Wings are pointed, often drooping when perched. More often heard than seen cuckoos can be identified by their distinctive call.

Habitat: can be found in woodland, hedgerows, marshes, moors and farmland.

Distribution: a summer visitor, seen across the UK particularly in southern and central England.
