Fieldfare
Turdus pilaris
Slightly bigger than a blackbird with a characteristic blue-grey head, chestnut back and mottled breast. Fieldfares can form large single or mixed flocks often with redwings.
Habitat: look for fieldfares in open fields, orchards and along hedgerows. In hard winters they may come into gardens.
Distribution: a winter visitor for most of the UK except for North West Scotland.
