Red admiral
Vanessa atalanta
Size: wingspan: 64-72mm (male), 70-78mm (female).
Description: wings are dark brown with distinctive red bands and white spots at tips of the fore-wings. Dark under-wings enable a very good camouflage.
Habitat: can be seen almost anywhere, flowery banks and gardens where its larvae feed on nettles.
Distribution: throughout the UK, depending on migration.
